60 Seconds With… – Beat mag
So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?
I’m Ando, the handsome and debonair dreamboat of Damn The Torpedoes. I play drums. Wally and Dick fill out the band, although I’m not exactly sure what they do.
Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?
The slightly misguided lovechild of The Bronx, Hot Snakes and The Sultans.
What do you love about making music?
Making lots (and lots) of noise with good musos who are also awesome dudes, and playing the kind of songs we want to hear.
What do you hate about the music industry?
The sore knees and lockjaw.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
We would make a pilgrimage to San Diego on Halloween in the late-90s, and leave our music at the altar of His Rocknroll Highness, Speedo (Rocket From The Crypt).
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
We’re lovers, not fighters. Although Akon could do with a smack in the chops.
What can a punter expect from your live show?
Ringing ears, a hangover and the vague memory of having had a damn good time.
What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
Our brand spanking new limited-edition EP ‘III’, available from damnthetorps.com
When’s the gig and with who?
Friday August 12th at The Old Bar, with support from the cream of the scene: Brat Farrar, Sons Of Lee Marvin, Kids Of Zoo and Harvest Smoke
